Confederate Air Force Museum, Mesa, AZ July 16-19, 2001 The Vimy stopped at the Confederate Air Force Base in Mesa, AZ on its cross-country trip to Oshkosh. Although the Vimy arrived late on July 16, a small crowd of people were on hand to greet it. On July 17, the Vimy received a constant stream of visitors, including the Channel 3 news team of Bruce Haffner and his cameraman, Hilton. The Vimy appeared on Phoenix KTVK Channel 3's "Good Morning Arizona" show on July 18. Other visitors included a group of children from the Sahauro Preschool, who posed for pictures. The Mesa stop was originally planned for two days so routine maintenance could be conducted on the Vimy. The trip was extended when the Vimy was grounded due to legal action initiated by BMW. The Mesa stop and hangar was hosted by the Confederate Air Force Arizona Wing, which has a wonderful museum full of planes and airforce memorabilia. The museum is at Falcon Field in Mesa and can be reached at 480-924-1940.
