Summer Flying Plans are Starting to Come Together

by Mark Rebholz

11-February-00

The word is out amoung many enthusiasts, especially the EAA, that the Vimy will be flying soon. Pete McMillan, John LaNoue and Mark Rebholz are busy writing the first in a series of magazine articles for "Sport Aviation," the journal of the Experimental Aircraft Association. The first article, planned to be published in the May issue, will be an introduction to the EAA membership of who we are and a brief description of what we have done and what we hope to do in the future. This issue will coincide with the publication of the African trip in the May National Geographic magazine. Later "Sport Aviation" articles will focus on the technical description of the Vimy, and after that a series describing the African adventure.

John LaNoue reports that early April is still a realistic target date for having the Vimy flying again. So far he has been able to do a lot of work that has been put off for years, since the Vimy was built. He has never had a lot of time to spend on the Vimy, so now he is taking advantage of this opportunity to make many improvements.

The appearance at AirVenture 2000 promises to be a high profile event for the Vimy, not only for the project team but for one of our sponsors, the Bose Corporation. We are planning a joint campaign, with an African theme. The Vimy will have a prominent parking spot at Oshkosh, and we hope to fly every day of the convention.
